3rd -5th Acting: Theatre Games

Zip! Zap! Zop! A great place for beginning or entry level students, this class will keep you on your toes! Young actors will have fun playing games that improve their stage presence, develop characters and work together. Every week a new set of theatre games will stretch and grow their creativity, imagination and stage presence. Students build confidence in the spotlight no matter what the situation. They’ll also learn there’s more to being on stage than simply standing in front of an audience.

HS Tech: Production Design

(Pre-requisite: 1 year of tech, equivalent experience and/or instructor approval) 
Advanced technical students focus on design work in all areas of technical theatre. They work together to find practical solutions to difficult design ideas. Students in this class will be heavily involved in production areas for all the shows in our season. Individual mentorship and responsibility will be a major focus. Because this class works on our productions, content is always changing and stretching the students! Tons of hands-on experience and individual mentorship as you create magic! Pre-Requisite: Prior tech classes and/or instructor approval.

• Lighting & sound design
• Stage décor: paint, set dressing
• Designing and building props

Jr High Tech: Intro to Tech

Hammers, saws, paint, and more! Students are introduced to the basics of “behind the scenes” through thematic lessons about construction, set design , paint, lighting, sound, costumes, props, and stage management. This class works closely with the High School Repertory in preparing for their shows. Students should dress appropriately for backstage work and be ready to have a “drilling” time!

Skills Focus:
• Lighting & sound design
• Stage décor: paint, set dressing
• Designing and building props
• Safety in set design
• Articulate and explain how technical elements (costumes, make up, lights, props, set, sound) are integrated into a drama/theatre work
• Experiment with a variety of technical elements such as costumes, make up, lights, sound, props that can be applied to a design in a drama/theatre work
• Evaluate the production elements used in a drama/theatre work to assess theme and perspective.

Jr High Improv: Improv 1

I’m going off script! Students think fast and have plenty of laughs in this upbeat class that teaches the fundamentals of improvisation. Not only will students enjoy games and comedic improv, but they’ll also learn techniques that will help them feel more confident as they grow into young performers. Fast paced and focused, improvisers will learn many new techniques that will serve them in many areas of theatre. From playing games to playing scenes, this class is sure to grow and stretch your student.

• Working as an ensemble
• Agreement (Yes And)
• How to gain energy in a scene
• Scene starters
• Short form games
• Creating characters
