About the Play
Kris Kringle is a kind old man who says he is Santa Claus. His generosity makes many believe. But when one fellow employee tries to
get Kris committed, it starts a fight that brings together all of New York.

This classic story tells the tale of a family with little faith and a kind old man who brings hope back to an entire city.

Director's Corner
by Scott Illingworth

The holidays have always meant two things to me: a chance to focus on spending time with the people I love, and a chance to focus on spending.
I think that the story of this play is really about where those two worlds collide.
The world of holiday advertising and media swirl around and encircle the
simple world of Kris Kringle, while he concentrates on the people in his life.
It's been exciting to really let ourselves imagine what an event like this would be like if it happened this holiday season. The media circus around the trial and subsequent 24-hour coverage, the
commercial use of Kris' kindness, and the pundits on either side would surely flood our televisions.
WeÕve created a play that strives to show you both the world that the characters live in, and the world Kris is trying to make it. The idea is not so much to preach the evils of how we celebrate the holidays, but rather to say that we can give our gifts and slow down enough to watch our loved ones enjoy them.
The miracle that happens on 34th
Street is that a city full of advertising and money and commercialism takes a moment to appreciate something they canÕt quantify: the kindness of a stranger to everyone he meets.
Kris Kringle is a calm inlet in a stormy sea. How lucky the characters of this play are to have someone come into their lives and help them take a deep breath and enjoy each other. I hope you enjoy your holiday season and have a chance to be a bit of Kris Kringle in the lives of your family and friends.
